This project uses network, web and database servers to implement a robust document management application using the company's existing infrastructure and desktop software. No third party document management software was required. The client application is deployed and dynamically updated when required via ActiveX documents, solving the classic client/server problem of client software distribution and maintenance. The system enforces user permission levels for document creation, editing and approval without requiring an application logon - the network logon information is used. The system also provides status tracking, document history and versioning. Automated email notification of changes in document status provides a basic ad-hoc workflow capability.
